The service will support online storage and streaming of media content for LG phones, tablets, PCs and smart TVs. To use the service, users need to download the LG Cloud app from Google Play, the LG SmartWorld app store or the LG Cloud website (www.lgecloud.com). LG's Cloud service automatically synchronizes smartphone content with the cloud server and the user's PC and TV. Photos and videos taken with the smartphone can be viewed and streamed to the PC or TV almost instantaneously. Videos edited on a PC can be uploaded to LG Cloud for viewing seconds later on a smartphone. LG says the service offers quicker transfers than rival cloud services, thanks to its Real-time Streaming Transcoding technology. The conversion happens on the server in realtime, not on the device. The service also works with 3D content. To develop the cloud services, LG created a new division called Smart Business Center to... The company has not yet decided on the name of Newco. As part of the deal, the companies will develop a Nook application for Windows 8, helping extend the reach of the digital books service. The agreement also ends the patent dispute between Microsoft and Barnes & Noble, with the latter and Newco granted a licence to Microsoft technology, on which they will pay royalties. TeliaSonera acts to protect privacy in non-democracies - (Telecompaper) TeliaSonera said it is taking action to deal better with privacy protection and freedom of expression in non-democratic countries, after recent media criticism and concern from its shareholders. The company's statement follows a recent Swedish TV programme alleging it gives state security services in what used to be the Soviet Union access to its systems. Chairman of TeliaSonera's board of directors Anders Narvinger has presented Minister of Financial Markets Peter Norman with a plan of action committing the company to a number of steps. One is to look at legal and licence requirements to ensure that TeliaSonera does not go beyond requirements, and that there is a robust process and escalation pathway when its active participation is required. EQT, a Northern European private equity group, has also been in talks about buying the group, although those close to the process say that these are not progressing at this stage. There were also luxury goods companies interested in adding the Vertu name to their stables of upmarket brands. Goldman Sachs is advising Nokia on the sales process. Annual revenue for the Vertu business was estimated at EUR 200-300 million, with outlets selling Vertu phones in more than 60 countries. Nokia is looking to sell off non-core parts of the business and accelerate cost savings in its... Telenor writes off remaining Indian stake - (Telecompaper) Telenor is writing off the remaining value of its stake in Indian mobile operator Uninor. This follows the Supreme Court's ruling in February to cancel Uninor's licences and the recent recommendation from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to sharply increase the price of the licences when they are re-auctioned. Telenor said that if the Trai recommendation in its current form should be approved by the Department of Telecommunications, it will be "almost impossible" to participate in the auction. The company said it's lobbying Indian authorities to amend the proposal. As a precautionary measure, Telenor decided to write down the remaining fixed and intangible assets in India amounting to NOK 3.9 billion. It already took a write-down of NOK 4.2 billion in February on the stake. The write-down will be included in Telenor's results for the first quarter, to be presented on 8 May.... Those interested in the auction may apply until 05 June, and the bids will be opened on 12 June. Winning companies will have to bring 4G serviced to all cities hosting the Confederations Cup by April 2013, to all...
